Car washes are important, and widespread, in Minnesota, owing to the long winter. Best time to get one--on your way in in the morning. I can't abide waiting even one full cycle for my turn, and if you have a dry Saturday or Sunday afternoon in MN, the lines can be 10 cars long. An unfortanate trend is the "brushless" or "touchless" wash, that relies strictly on soap and high pressure to clean your car. They simply don't work as well. I'm not sure that brushes are really so hard on your car's finish, or that extra-high-pressure isn't, but anyway, the trend for "touchy-feely" car washes is not stiff, bristly brushes, but rather a flagellation-style contactor, whose tentacles seem fairly soft and rubbery. The car washes are too expensive, IMO. $8, and usually no discount, or $1 at most, with a fill-up. Some places sell $20 cards good for 4-5 washes, which is much more reasonable. Unfortuantely, my favorite place (because it is one of the aforementioned, contact-based washes), does not sell the discount cards. So I rely on the monthly 50% off coupons I get out of the coupon book my kids' school is always pushing at the beginning of the year.
