I really loathe what I call "money parties". These are the parties where women (yes, it is virtually always women) gather at the house of a hostess, who throws the party at the behest of a friend. It's purpose is to sell a product. As of a few years ago, it seemed to be mostly just the "big three": Tupperware, Pampered Chef and Mary Kay. So at least you could easily beg off that you had been to one lately. Now, it seems like everything under the sun: books, candles(!), scrapbooking.

Yuck. I just loathe the endless encroachment of commercial interest into all nooks and crannies of life.
