I don't typically get very interested in social-phenomenon web sites, such as AmIHotOrNot.com, Friendster, etc. I try to research just enough about them to keep up my knowledge of internet developments. I put postsecret.blogspot.com in the same category, though I must admit, the postcard "secrets" I saw in my 5 minutes of perusing it were sort of intriguing, even as I found many of them somewhat improbable.

I just read a NYT review of the site, and now I am thinking/guessing that the vast majority of them are fakes. I think that a small number of serial forgers probably account for the majority of the submissions. This is all guesswork, and I don't have time or motivation right now to do further research, but it defnitely sets off my internet myth/urban legend detectors.
