Syncing. Syncing! Syncing! Syncing! SYNCING!!!

I found this link from Om's blog. Now that podcasting fever has taken hold, everyone is longing for more *push* content. I don't buy it, even when the Shifted Librarian makes her case (but she is a Treo person, so all is forgiven).

Russell Beattie says:

Here's something I've felt for a while now, but haven't really figured out how to express until now. I finally just realized that it's actually a very simple idea: Syncing is *THE* most important piece of technology in the future of mobility.

For my Palm smartphone, it's not an issue. I know some will say that I'm doing the podcasting thing and automatically receiving mp3 feeds each time I sync my Treo. Simply stated, I don't have the time or inclination to listen to any number of mp3s hoping to derive some useful information and/or entertainment. I'll wait until I get a good recommendation for well-researched and well-produced content before I pull these files onto my device.

Look at some other things Russell says:

Calendar and PIM information is what Palm does best. Also apps (again Palm does it perfectly),..

Palm sync is the best sync bar none.

I agree and these statements have nothing to do with push media, at least as far as my usage is concerned. Trying to use a Nokia phone to take advantage of the podcasting meme is a hack, but even Microsoft will work this out with their smartphones. If you're including advertising in your media, then of course you want folks to download your content on a consistent basis. (But I also believe that good content should command a premium.) Otherwise, I'd rather let the wisdom of the Web to screen what I might consider worthy of downloading to my phone.

(After this flurry of activity on this blog, I have to go back to some writing projects, even involving some CME. Will be blogging as time permits.)

Webinar for palmOne's Tungsten 5

The New Tungsten T5 Handheld in Healthcare: October 20, 10:00 to 11:00 AM Pacific Time. All Attendees are entered for a chance to win a new T5.

This device supports wireless data in the form of Bluetooth, which should be able to interface with the upcoming Treo 650, AFAIK. I still have to find out about compatibility with any WiFi SD cards. Nonetheless, it has the advantage of being recognized by a PC as a virtual drive, making it very easy to transfer files using the USB connector. Non-volatile memory also makes it attractive for backing up your Palm OS contact lists. The 320 x 480 screen makes it easier to read medical reference material and applications for which the Palm OS has the lion's share.
