Albert at Edblogger Praxis quotes and points to hipteacher who writes interestingly about her bloggin' experiences with Grade 11 and 12ers:
"Out of a class of 47 11th and 12th grade AP students, an end-of-blog unit evaluation recorded 16 negative or neutral responses and 96 positive responses to using blogs... Most of the negative responses were about difficulties with the technology at the high school....
The top things kids said they really liked about working on blogs: 1. They like reading the work of their classmates. 14 votes. Some liked it for touchy-feely, know their classmates better reasons, and some liked it because they want to compare their work with others (i.e. mostly competitive boys), and some because they felt inspired in their own writing by reading the work of their classmates.
2. They liked the helpful feedback they received via the comment function. 23 votes. Some not only liked the immediate gratification, they also felt like their editing and revision skills improved.
Two weeks after the unit ended, students are still posting their school writing on their blogs."
Which is pretty cool... and hopefully there's a paper on the way too!
However... she's suffering as much as I am with finding resources for blogging papers... here are some great places to start:
Pink Flamingo's Blogs and Wikis in Education Sebastian Fielder's Personal Webpublishing as a Reflective Conversational Tool for Self-Organized Learning Sebastian Paquet's Personal Knowledge Publishing and it's uses in Research Oliver Wrede's Weblogs and Discourse: Weblogs as a transformational technology for higher education and academic research
Good lord... there are so many... I'm not at my desk today so my printed (yes... back to basics :o) pile of weblogging papers isn't to hand. What would be REALLY useful though would be to collate 'papers' (that is, writing that can 'stand up' for citation in a refereed journal) that are relevant to weblogs in general and in education in particular... perhaps using Swiki... anyone up for a collaborative bitofwork here?
Or has it already been done / is being done?
