The blogging of health care reform. Paul Kedrosky surfaces this bit of good news from a (subscription-required) Wall Street Journal article:
NIH Director Elias Zerhouni said the voluntary policy encourages
scientists who receive full or partial NIH funding to submit their
research papers to a database that will be run by the agency.
...
The policy asks scientists to make their work freely available
on the NIH's PubMed Central database "as soon as possible and within 12
months of final publication" in scientific journals such as the Journal
of the American Medical Association and the New England Journal of
Medicine.
We should all applaud this move. But if John Abramson is right, it's only the first step in a very long journey. His book Overdosed America: The Broken Promise of American Medicine
is a searing indictment of a process so corrupted by pharmaceutical and
medical-equipment interests that, Abramson says, we now have on our
hands:
...a scandal in medical
science that is at least the equivalent of any of the recent corporate
scandals that have shaken Americans' confidence in the integrity of the
corporate and financial worlds.

Valentine's Day Short Film.
In the continuing spirit of the ‘days before Valentine’s Day’ theme I’ve been running here on The Social Software
Weblog, ‘Dusty’ left me this tip about a twelve and a half minute
film—Cat food & Bean dip—that he and ‘Eric’
created.
”...What do most guys really think of Valentine’s Day? We are filmmakers known for making short films with an
alternative take on the subject at hand. We think you and your readers will find our short film a refreshing and
honest look inside the mind of an average guy as he attempts to not be alone on Valentine’s Day.
To watch our short film, right click on the link below and do a ‘save as’ to download the movie to your desktop.
The title of the film is Cat food & Bean dip…”
Right click here to download this short film. And
leave a comment to let me know your thoughts. Thanks…

The social life of links and tags.
Seb writes of CiteULike and
Connotea, and also makes mention of
Biologging.
These three services cater to researchers and academics—aiding in the sharing of links and citations. Seb mentions
that he hasn’t yet done a ‘thorough comparison’ between CiteULike and Connotea but he—and you—might be interested in
roxomatic’s comparison of the eleven following
‘social bookmark’ services:
Furl, Spurl,
del.icio.us, HLOM,
Gibeo, CiteULike,
Connotea, Linkroll,
openBM, Simpy, FeedMe
Links
Here’s a direct link to the pdf document version of this
comparison chart.
