Computerworld: Hallmark apologizes for Valentine's Day Web site outage.
An army of love-struck Internet users seeking to pick up or send
Hallmark electronic cards on Feb. 14 was turned away from the company's
site, which was off-line for a large part of the day. "We thought we
were ready to handle a huge amount of traffic on Valentine's Day.
Obviously, we thought wrong," Hallmark wrote in an e-mail to
customers... [Tomalak's Realm]

Corporate blogging hits stage at Demo. Blogging goes corporate at Demo. WhatCounts is
showing off a blog appliance. A company could buy their box, stick it
in their datacenter, and instantly get a rich set of blogs.
I got a demo yesterday and this is very interesting. It's a
competitor for some types of corporate knowledge management. From my
point of view appliances like these could disrupt Sharepoint's
business. The Sharepoint team should take this very seriously.
Sharepoint should add a few simple blogging features (for instance
discoverability, RSS, permalinks).
This is one of the first Linux-based systems I've seen on stage too. [Scobleizer: Microsoft Geek Blogger]

Why Millions Say, Softly, God Bless America.
Democracy has many enemies, and the terrorist is only one of them.
It also has many hypocritical and humbugging pseudosupporters, which is
one of numerous lessons to be drawn from the situation in Iraq.
Read remarks from Jan Haugland, Baldilocks, Orrin Judd, and Greg Ransom. [memeorandum]
Can you say partisan? Sounds like this guy is saying that if
you are democratic nation, you are responsibility, have a moral duty to
drive democracy around the world. But, how is it democratic is
someone else is doing it for you? And, the people in Iraq voted for a
group of people who are support theocracy, not democracy.

Capturing the Spirit of the '60s.
The book In the House of My Fear by Joel Agee has been giving
commentator Andrei Codrescu flashbacks from the 1960s: the feeling of
being hit on the head with a nightstick at a demonstration, or of an
acid trip. It's the book Codrescu has been waiting for, one that
vividly captures the period's sensibility. [NPR's All Things Considered]
