Doing it Continental style
Old dogs and all that: Last night in a fit of holiday knitting angst, I cast on for two projects: a glittery Audrey bag for my MIL and a grey felted number for an as-yet-to-be-decided-upon recipient. After using up my last inch of Trendsetter Aura, placing MIL's bag on hold until I can get my butt to the LYS, I began happily knitting in the round on the grey one. Whilst speeding across the stitches, I think, why not try this Continental style? Alas, after knitting English--leave it to the English to derive a more tedious, plodding way to knit--for (ahem) 30-plus years, switching ain't so easy. I wrapped my yarn this way and that but I couldn't get the right angle to get those quick picks from my working yarn. Not to mention tension. It's like learning to knit all over again except I know what's supposed to happen and am powerless in the face of it. Argh.
Onward every onward. If I'm ever going to learn two-handed Fair Isle, Continental knitting is a necessary evil...plus using one's left hand must be good for adding a synapse or two.
This morning I turned to Deb Stoller's Continental yarn hold descriptions in Stitch 'N Bitch and will give them a twirl tonight. Thank goodness I'm felting this puppy, I've got stitches happening in all shapes and sizes.
