Are you protected?
Two nasties have appeared in the last 48 hours:
Backdoor.OptixPro.13 is a Trojan horse that gives a remote attacker full remote access to your computer. By default, the Trojan opens port 3410 for listening.
W32.HLLW.Kullan is a worm with backdoor capabilities. It spreads across networks by copying itself to the Start Menu on computers that are accessible from an infected machine. The most common reason for this access is an unprotected shared resource. Some of the backdoor capabilities include the retrieval of information relating to the computer and operating system type, the logging of keystrokes, and the examination of e-mail.
If you use Norton Antivirus, as I do, you might consider going to this page and downloading the latest virus definitions with the intelligent updater. The current file is dated 25th April. The next scheduled Live Update file isn't due till 30th April. Symantec might decide to release one ahead of time, but why wait?
And of course, if you use a Mac, you need do nothing except sit back and laugh at us poor Windows users :-)
