Ferry Maat leaves Radio 10 FM The exodus has begun. Thanks to Poul Foged for drawing my attention to the sudden departure of veteran Dutch DJ Ferry Maat from Radio 10 FM, just two months after joining the station in a blaze of publicity. Last week, Ferry was officially off sick with an ear infection, and I suspected then that something was in the wind. He hasn't said what he plans to do now, but those of you who have been reading the comments in this Weblog will know from our friend Kristian of Sky Radio's Copenhagen office that some Radio 10 DJ's have been lined up to join Radio Veronica 103 FM. I hope that the owners of Radio 10 FM will do the decent thing and close down the station while it's still popular, rather than let it go into a gradual decline. At least they will salvage some respect. It would be neat if they closed down on 31st August, not least because that was the date in 1974 when Radio Veronica closed down as an offshore station. 7:55:52 PM     comment on this entry []

Message from Chris van Gelder On behalf of the family I would like to thank everybody for all the wonderful and heart warming response to the passing away of my father Harry van Gelder.   It is great to notice that even after so many years since his retirement he has not been forgotten.   Fortunately Dad went just as he wanted, at home in his own surroundings and stayed mentally fit till the very last day.   We are grateful for the fact that he was given the time to prepare everything and to say farewell to all his beloved ones.    Dad first took me to Radio Netherlands when I was about ten years old and he has always been proud that I have kept the name “van Gelder” very much alive here at the station ever since I joined in 1979.   It will never be the same without him.   Chris van Gelder 11:21:44 AM     comment on this entry []
