Radio Veronica 103 FM to get cable distribution
It has been announced in The Netherlands that as of 10 July, Sky Radio is taking over the cable frequencies of the recently-closed Radio Nationaal, and will use them to give national cable distribution to Radio 103 De Gouwe Ouwe Zender, which on 31 August will become Radio Veronica 103 FM.
Sky Radio has purchased DistriNed BV, parent company of Radio Nationaal, and has thus acquired the rights to use the cable frequencies. However, the decision about what stations to carry on cable still lies with the cable companies which take advice from the regional programme councils. Here in the Hilversum area, the cable frequency that previously carried Radio Nationaal is now carrying RTL Radio, which wansn’t previously available in this area. It will be interesting to see what happens on Thursday!
Whatever happens, this seems to be one more nail in the coffin of Radio 10 FM, which will no longer have the advantage of being the only oldies station with national cable distribution.
