Radio 10 boss in TV interview

Erik de Zwart, director of Radio 10 FM owners Talpa Radio, was interviewed last night on the regional TV station TV Noord-Holland. Unfortunately I missed the interview, but the according to Radio 10's Web site, de Zwart was asked why he thought Radio 10 had failed to get the oldies licence. He said he thought it was Radio 10's decision to play two current songs an hour, which apparently is "outside the guidelines." Showing that he still has a sense of humour, when asked to choose his own favourite golden oldie he replied "‘Run like hell’ by Pink Floyd.

RTL Radio still on cable in the Hilversum area

Despite Tuesday's report that the cable frequencies of the former Radio Nationaal were to start carrying Sky's Radio 103 from today, here in the Hilversum area Radio Nationaal's former cable frequency was continuing to carry RTL Radio when I checked at 1030 UTC.

BBC free to air on Astra 2D as of today

Over the past few hours the BBC has been removing encryption from its digital TV services broadcast on the Astra 2D satellite. The process began at 0400 UTC and is expected to be completed within the next couple of hours. This means that, for the first time, TV viewers within the footprint of the Astra 2D satellite (which includes, amongst other areas, the whole of Benelux) can view BBC transmissions on any satellite receiver without the need for a viewing card and Sky digibox. The full range of BBC regional variations is available. The full list of stations and settings is:

BBCi is "hidden" from the Sky Digibox "Add Channels" facility. On a Digibox the service is accessed automatically by pressing the red button on the remote when tuned to a BBC channel.
