Usenix: Monkey see, Monkey do, Monkey test Web site performance. Google and student developers have created an open-source tool called Monkey that's used to predict the effect on Web site response times when network conditions change. [Computerworld News]
It's cool to see there's still some room for innovation in regards to simple things like Web performance benchmarks. Hopefully this will spawn some follow-up efforts to even more accurately simulate HTTP network traffic loads. I've never really worried or tried benchmarking the server I manage for the University of Rochester. But after reading the white paper put out today on Monkey, I'm more curious about just how well our server stacks up compared to others.
