OK, I really don't have time to do this (I'm on deadline for a software help file), but this could be really big news.
It seems several Linux companies have been using JavaOne to make assorted announcements (Java-related or not) related to Linux on the desktop. These are all rounded up in this piece from CMP's Computer Reseller News (may not be a permalink). Paula Rooney does some actual journalism by talking to several contacts in the analyst and reseller/"solutions provider" communities. My favorite line:
"There are significant barriers to overcome, with Microsoft's virtual lock on desktop apps," said Kevin Gates, Linux specialist at Denver Solutions Group, Denver, which is evaluating SuSE Linux Desktop. ""I don't see us making sales on desktop for at least another six to eight months. But the desktop is like the server was two years ago."
Yee-hah!
Back to the grindstone. Sparse postings the rest of this week.
