AOL, Microsoft and Netscape: Guess Who Wins?

Aside from the continuing battle to save the broadcast status quo, the big news of the last 36 hours has been the settlement of AOL Time Warner's antitrust suit against Microsoft for killing Netscape. Essentially, it comes down to M$ coughing up $750 million to another mega-corp in exchange for AOL's cooperation in strangling the public domain (aka promoting digital rights management standards).

As I type this (in an Internet Explorer window, I shudder to point out), I don't have time to provide cogent links, but promise to return here later to do this up properly.

Meanwhile, I am headed out to a Milwaukee institution: the Friday Night Fish Fry. Then I have to get back to my help file. Then, I'll come back here.
