Boing Boing (possibly my favorite blog, if perhaps least enlightening) points to an odd story on Sci-Fi.com about a dispute between Disney, the heirs of A.A. Milne and a third company holding rights to Winnie-the-Pooh. Cory Doctorow suggests that it's hard to pick a horse in this one, and judging from the info in the quoted story, it might be.
But.... I found this AP wire story that both muddies the water a bit, but makes Disney more villainous (if you ask me).
The evil here is definitely in the never-ending copyright. This doesn't benefit writers and other creators. It certainly doesn't benefit readers and researchers. It only benefits giant corporations that don't ever die.
