Ooh boy! Google found me! So I'm new at this. I won't burden all of you with every ping in my Referrer log, but this is the first worth noting. Somebody searched Google for "Thailand Dell Openoffice" and The World's Greatest Search Engine pulled up my story on the Thai People's PC. Public Domain Enhancement Act introduced A few weeks ago, I ranted in this space about signing a petition supporting a bill that didn't exist. We are now much closer to that reality. Larry Lessig carried 15,000+ electronic signatures in favor of the Public Domain Enhancement Act to DC this week, and two (now three) congresscritters (two Dems and a Rep) will be sponsoring said Act in this session. As described in BoingBoing: Eldred Act coming to Congress. Lessig reports that Representatives Doolittle and Lofgren will introduce the Eric Eldred act to Congress. This is the bill that would require copyright holders to drop $1/work at the fifty-year mark in order to retain their copyright interests for the full duration set out by Congress -- otherwise, the works would enter the public domain. That way, you could find out what was and wasn't in copyright, and who held the rights to what. This is astonishingly good news. Go public domain! Some rights reserved!
