Information Integration

The development of strategies for electronic information integration in distributed databases and is one of the hottest topics in the computer industry and of significant interest to law enforcement and integrated justice developers and practitioners.  IBM has adopted a serious research agenda to further develop these concepts and deal with such issues as the federation of data where distributed databases such as might be found in the integration of legacy systems in criminal justice.  The summary of the IBM research program defines several modes of integration from the portal to the full EII implementation.   IBM researchers have accurately described the alternatives for information integration and although their focus is toward commercial enterprises, there is much to study as these principles are developed and applied to the public safety and criminal justice information system worlds.
