City Wide Wi-Fi
Wi-Fi, or 800.11 networking, is being installed by more and more towns and cities to give law enforcement officers high speed access via mobile computers. Some towns have gone to the extent of blanketing the city with this technology, where 802.11b provides the theoretical capacity of 10Mbps access. Post Falls, Idaho has been able to cover 90% of the city with Wi-Fi access points. As people get tired of low speed radio connectivity, this is likely to become a more common approach.
