Jerry Solsrud, founder of the Wisconsin Waterfowl Association, raised
several interesting questions in an email sent today to several writers
and Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources staffers.
Here are his questions. If he gets any answers, I'll post them, too. If
anyone has a suggested answer, let me know and I'll post that, too.
(Parenthetical comments/explanations added by me.)
1. If one is not to consume Canada geese harvested in the
Cedarburg WI area, what is one supposed to do with them? (Wisconsin
waterfowl regs advise against consuming Canada geese from this part of
Ozaukee County because they frequent waters containing PCBs and other
contaminants. The regs also advise against consuming other waterfowl
from other waters, as well.)
2. If it is illegal to hunt waterfowl from
"any pier, dam, dock, breakwater or similar artificial structure", how does a
more or less permanent duck blind differ in any way from the foregoing
definition?
3. If people like (Minneapolis) Star Tribune columnist
Dennis Anderson are going to these "7 foot long" shotgun barrels that "are all
but silent"; and as were originally experimented with by Wildfowl Magazine's
L.P. Brezny, at what point do these devices become silencers, and therefore
illegal? Their purpose being to not disturb the neighbors quite so much in
an urban setting - a very noble cause.
ANyone have answers?
