Mostly news stories or articles of interest in the future to me. I'll eventually get around to adding my own ideas and stories on a more regular basis.

I talked with a couple of friends this weekend about a recent self-realization.  I had realized that when I meet someone new (or get to know someone I've known for a while better) that I pretty instantly pick up some of their interests/hobbies and make them my own.  Partly it's that I want to have something else in common, but also a desire to understand why it is they enjoy what they do.  So, the conversation started with my questioning whether I was actually lacking in my own identity and we quickly decided that....no, I do have my own quirks and interests that are not related to anyone else.  However, in general, I'm very people-focused and this ability to grab new things easily is a bit of a rarity...most folks are set in the handful of things they enjoy and that's it.  I have a really light interest in A LOT of things.  I wonder if I'll eventually find things that hold my interest long enough for me to be obsessive or if I'll continue to experience a variety pack.

I am obsessive about people, but I'm not sure how that translates into a hobby. heh.

Along the same lines, a self-proclaimed problem is that I don't really care about doing most things "the best."  I like to be better than average, but I'm not typically willing to take the time to do my personal very best.  Scrapbooking is a decent example.  Most of my friends will do one page while I do four.  My pages are "fine" - meaning, not just "thrown together" but I don't get anything from having them look awesome so I'm not willing to put that effort into it.  I'd much rather just be done.  The tie-in is the "light"-ness of the hobby...

For now I think I'm okay with both, but would like to force myself to give something a harder focus just to see how I do.

Today's song stuck in my head:

If I Had A Million Dollars
Barenaked Ladies

If I had a million dollars
(If I had a million dollars)
I'd buy you a house
(I would buy you a house)
If I had a million dollars
(If I had a million dollars)
I'd buy you furniture for your house
(Maybe a nice chesterfield or an ottoman)
And if I had a million dollars
(If I had a million dollars)
Well, I'd buy you a K-Car
(A nice Reliant automobile)
If I had a million dollars I'd buy your love

If I had a million dollars
I'd build a tree fort in our yard
If I had million dollars
You could help, it wouldn't be that hard
If I had million dollars
Maybe we could put like a little tiny fridge in there somewhere
You know, we could just go up there and hang out
Like open the fridge and stuff
There would already be laid out foods for us
Like little pre-wrapped sausages and things

They have pre-wrapped sausages but they don't have pre-wrapped bacon
Well, can you blame 'em
Uh, yeah

If I had a million dollars
(If I had a million dollars)
Well, I'd buy you a fur coat
(But not a real fur coat that's cruel)
And if I had a million dollars
(If I had a million dollars)
Well, I'd buy you an exotic pet
(Yep, like a llama or an emu)
And if I had a million dollars
(If I had a a million dollars)
Well, I'd buy you John Merrick's remains
(Ooh, all them crazy elephant bones)
And If I had a million dollars I'd buy your love

If I had a million dollars
We wouldn't have to walk to the store
If I had a million dollars
Now, we'd take a limousine 'cause it costs more
If I had a million dollars
We wouldn't have to eat Kraft Dinner
But we would eat Kraft Dinner
Of course we would, we’d just eat more
And buy really expensive ketchups with it
That’s right, all the fanciest ke... dijon ketchups!
Mmmmmm, Mmmm-Hmmm

If I had a million dollars
(If I had a million dollars)
Well, I'd buy you a green dress
(But not a real green dress, that's cruel)
And if I had a million dollars
(If I had a million dollars)
Well, I'd buy you some art
(A Picasso or a Garfunkel)
If I had a million dollars
(If I had a million dollars)
Well, I'd buy you a monkey
(Haven't you always wanted a monkey)

If I had a million dollars
I’d buy your love

If I had a million dollars, If I had a million dollars
If I had a million dollars, If I had a million dollars
If I had a million dollars
I'd be rich

I just missed a third social event for August....because I forgot it was happening.  Maybe I need a palm pilot or something after-all or to use my phone calendar for weekend stuff.  Outlook works for M-F, but apparently I turn into a flake on the weekend.....
