Today
The art teacher across the hall from me has a hard time getting control of her classroom. She's a bit reticent, and the kids take advantage of this in a big way. Today, not the first time this year, a huge shouting fight between students erupted. The last one I think resulted in a physical fight. The thing is this kind of thing happens somewhat regularly. I think she's just afraid to really take a stand against the offenders. Her classroom is a regular place for class-cutters to take refuge and socialize. Many students' education is being disrupted. It's a shame. A similar situation exists in the room next door to me, which is unfortunately only separated by a removable wall. I can hear everything that goes on in there: kids being loud, the teacher (and her high-pitched somewhat annoying voice) trying to be heard over them. Her empty threats to fail them if they don't quiet down and work. A couple shouting matches have occurred in there over the last few years as well. When we are testing I've had to go over and ask the class to be quiet that day. Ironically, the teacher is the one who is loudest and doesn't realize it. My voice probabaly carries pretty well too, though, so I shouldn't really complain.
