Keen to run Oracle on Red Hat 9 but having problems with libraries and kernel parameters? This article over at ITToolbox gives you step-by-step instructions on installing Oracle 9i Release 2 on Red Hat 9, including the installation of the backward-compatability and software development packages required to get the installation up and running first-time.

Check out Vattekkat Satheesh Babu tech site and weblog for news and articles on Oracle development, programming with Java, C#, Zope and Python (amongst others), and some excellent op-ed pieces on technology and development.

Vattekkat's site is incredibly well put-together and it's got an excellent overall design. He's used Movable Type as his blogging software, and he's obviously a pretty competent web designer as the site looks very much professional quality. He's made available a set of Oracle DBA scripts for download, together with a tool called 'OraHoo', a port of OraSnap that displays information from these scripts via a portal-type interface using your browser. OraHoo requires that you install PHP compiled with Oracle support, so i'll download the required PHP files and take a look at this next week.

Vattekkat's originally from Kerala in India, and I spent a lovely couple of weeks there a few years ago. It was good to see Vattekkat's pictures from there, and it brought back some great memories.
