The 9.2.0.4 database patchset incorporates some enhancements to Oracle Data Mining, including changes to the ODM Java API. These API changes necessitate a new version of DM4J, which will be released by Oracle in the fall of 2003.

The existing version of DM4J supports ODM 9.2.0.1, 9.2.0.2 and 9.2.0.3, but will error if it is used against 9.2.0.4 because of the API changes.

The next version of Microsoft SQL Server, codenamed 'Yukon', is shaping up to be a major business intelligence release.

Improvements include the bundling of Reporting Services, a server-side technology similar to Oracle Reports, that provides features to aid in the development, management and distribution of reports in a number of formats. Yukon will also include six new data mining algorithms (association rules, naive bayes, neural netz, regression trees, sequence clustering and time series), explicit support for Key Performance Indicators, and scripting extensions to MDX, the query language for Analysis Services.

DTS is being improved, with more of an emphasis on building data marts and data warehouses, and a new feature, 'BI Development Workbench' will be included that provides an integrated environment for managing the entire BI development process.

For more details, check out this article at CRN.com and this powerpoint presentation given at the recent Microsoft Tech-Ed conference.
