Back From the Front
I received this email yesterday, and thought I would share.
Hello Lee

OOORAW

I don't know if you remember me, I wrote on your site when I was home on leave, and well now I'm back for good from the hell hole we refer to say "ISAQ" (IRAQ). Just wanted to drop you a little note and to say thanks to you and your fellow blogger and the people who write to your site. I had a few chances to take a look at " right-thinking" well I was in the sand trap and turned a few other warriors onto your site as well. Just to let you people know, all the things you hear and see from the liberal news media, isn't all that goes on over there. I don't know if you heard , but we've built quite a few schools, hospitals and various other projects for the Iraqi people and most of them thank us sincerely for doing it. The mood over their with our guys and gals is to say the least pretty good. most know they will be their for at least a year, and are OK with that, not to much bitching but we have our days. I can't say enough about the people back here, towns I've never heard of sending us things that seem petty here but very much appreciated when you get them. One lady and the people from her town send over to us 100 small pillows that were like gold to us. Beats using our shield (helmet)for a pillow. Missed a lot of little thinks to, my sons first walk and first talk, my dog having pups and mickydees, mmmmmmmm. Well Lee, if you want to ask me anything about what's it like or what ever, I'd be more than glad to fill you in on things . Again thanks to you all who show us what really matters and thats what its all about. Some people call us crazy, saying why would you want to fight and maybe die, fighting for the Iraq people. Well as i use to say " if you need to ask, you will never understand".

A special thanks to you Lee, guys like you keep the shit right and and say it how it is, that makes you all right in my book.

Rick, I definitely remember you, and I'm damn glad that you made it back alive and well. You guys did a hell of a job, and everyone over there should be as proud as hell of what you have accomplished. The world is a better place because of your efforts and sacrifice.

Bravo zulu!

Blatantly stolen from [GutRumbles.com]

So many people have asked what they can do to help us here. People graciously offer to send us anything we need. I am humbled by such generosity, and it makes me even prouder to serve. But we are well taken care of here. We are at once the best cared for and most formidable fighting force the world has ever known. (Who could have thought it possible?) I am sure that some of our brothers and sisters on the ground can use some creature comforts that I enjoy every day. But for me, I've been unable to think of anything I really lack here. Anything that can be sent to me, that is.

Lately though, with so many kind people offering, I've been giving more thought to the question. What do I really want? I came up with the following list:
I ask that when we bring home victory, let it be to a nation that reflects the principles we're defending.Let us return to a nation that respects the near-sacred duty of selecting its representatives, and doesn't sell its votes for others' property. Let it be a place where courts evaluate laws in light of the Constitution, instead of vice versa. When we return with the coffins of our friends, let it be to a land that knows about George Washington, and where teachers understand that a child's self esteem is proportional to his self-discipline. Let our homecoming be to a healthy republic, maintained, as Jefferson said, by a "virtuous, educated" populace.Let us come back to a government that does not deny the existence of the God its founders worshipped openly. Let us return to a nation that does not squander what we will have bought so dearly, that does not turn over what we have won with our blood to the United Nations and agents of hostile governments. Let us be honored not with parades and speeches, but with policies that reward those who helped us and punish those who made our mission more dangerous. Let us return to a nation whose State Department honors the principles we risk our lives for.Let us return to citizens who recognize that they are responsible for their own government. So many of you have written to let me know that my colleagues and I are in your prayers; that you ask for our speedy and safe return. At the risk of seeming ungrateful, I ask you to pray for something else. Pray that when we bring home victory, it will be to a nation based on liberty, on the belief that the government that governs least governs best. Pray that we bring home victory once again, to a nation that is worthy.

Extra Extra!  Hell Freezes Over!

Someone says a word in defense of Microsoft.......and a thousand words against.  At least this guy has the Linux thing straight if you read far enough down.  (LP)

However, I'm still waiting for the other alternative desktop to arrive – Linux. True – there are already graphical user interfaces available from Red Hat, SuSE and others that look and act very similar to Microsoft's products. ......Unfortunately, the current solutions aren't quite ready for mass adoption.

I've been using Linux and Unix on servers for decades. I even greatly enjoyed the Unix-based Next desktop environment for a couple of years in the early 1990s (and since Next was acquired by Apple and much of this value was integrated into the Mac operating system, you too can enjoy these benefits). However, I recently upgraded one of my Windows-based PCs to the SuSE Linux distribution and I was quite disappointed. The solution meets my needs well. But, unless you are comfortable jumping into a Linux/Unix shell command line mode to install new software or to launch new programs, I'm afraid Linux isn't yet right for you.
