My first hobby, (one of many, many, others) starting in the early 60's was Amateur Radio.  Many years ago the FCC abandoned us because we were a pain in the ass and decided to let us police ourselves.  It was a disaster as I and many others predicted, and now the once proud hobby is a wasteland of idiots who wouldn't know a dot from a dash or a resistor from a diode if it hit them in the face.  So here I am sending my recyclable electrons thru the phone lines instead of out into the ether.  Below is my very first post on Userland.
