and speaking of the net being self cleansing as a news source ,here is a good example from the biggest of the big, Glenn Reynolds..............
KEVIN MCCULLOUGH HAS RETRACTED his Ed Asner interview report. Scroll to the bottom to see the new report of what Asner said, which is rather different from McCullough's original report -- no longer does the question ask Asner about portraying someone he'd respects, and Asner's answer shows his awareness of Stalin's murders. It's hard for me to understand how McCullough could have made this mistake, but I'm glad he's corrected it.
I've posted a correction over at GlennReynolds.com, too, since I also wrote about the Asner issue there.
UPDATE: Here's McCullough's blog retraction, too. McCullough has taken his medicine admirably.
and Asner is still a jerk! (LP)

More of the real story from Iraq. [SEATTLE POST-INTELLIGENCER REPORTER]
As time goes by there will be more of these reports coming out of Iraq from independent sources not connected with any major news service. Hell even a group of Democrat Congressmen came back with the same type of stories.
You would think that the big media boys would say, "Ok, the real story is starting to leak out so we will have to fall in line or look like the assholes that we are". Apparently they are not smart enough to figure this out or they just don't care. Their ratings continue to slide. The false respect they had at one time continues to erode. I think they figure that the majority of Americans get all their news from the evening news on TV. They know that the majority of Americans will believe anything and everything they are told - so why change? (LP)

Weasel Watch [found at The Wall Street Journal] "France, Russia and Germany on Tuesday dropped their demands that the United States grant the United Nations a central role in Iraq's reconstruction and yield power to a provisional Iraqi government in the coming months," the Washington Post reports. "The move constituted a major retreat by the Security Council's chief antiwar advocates, and signaled their renewed willingness to consider the merits of a U.S. resolution aimed at conferring greater international legitimacy on its military occupation of Iraq."

'Serious Moral Goals' [Wall Street Journal] Somehow this is more infuriating than all the idiocy spouted by all the Michael Moores and Susan Sarandons and Noam Chomskys over the past two years. From the London Daily Telegraph:
The Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Rowan Williams, yesterday urged America to recognise that terrorists can "have serious moral goals."
He said that while terrorism must always be condemned, it was wrong to assume its perpetrators were devoid of political rationality. "It is possible to use unspeakably wicked means to pursue an aim that is shared by those who would not dream of acting in the same way, an aim that is intelligible or desirable."
He said that in ignoring this, in its criticism of al-Qa'eda, America "loses the power of self-criticism and becomes trapped in a self-referential morality."
In the same speech, Williams denounced the liberation of Iraq. So let's see if we have this straight: The head of the Anglican Church is telling us that the wanton murder of thousands of innocent people is a sign of "serious moral goals," while the liberation of millions from one of the world's most vicious dictatorships is, as he has put it, "immoral and illegal."
Is this really what Christianity is all about?

Michelle Malkin fries the New York Slimes!
None of Jindal's policy accomplishments matter more to Cohen, however, than this: He is "the dark-skinned son of immigrants from India."
Dark-skinned. It wallops you in the head like the high fastballs being pitched at Fenway Park. Dark-skinned. I have met Jindal a few times over the years – he was an Oxford classmate of my husband's. Jindal has a memorable smile, a trademark, fast-paced way of talking, and a boundless enthusiasm about politics and policy. Never did the hue of his skin ever register in my head. (And yet we conservatives are constantly slimed by the media as the bigots!)
