The Army started looking to switch gas suppliers in Iraq back in October because it was doing the same job as Halliburton for a much cheaper price.

This shouldn't be rocket science to figure out.  In Greensboro I can buy a gallon of gas for $1.37 which includes 23.4 cents in taxes.  Our good friends at Halliburton are charging you and me $2.65 per gallon and the crude doesn't even have to be transported across an ocean nor taxed by the government.

You would think that our government would just quit dealing with Halliburton and its subsidiary KBR since they have fleeced us before by charging $86.00 for $14.00 sheets of plywood among other bargains.

President Bush is doing more grandstanding than leading over the whole flap IMHO.  I think that the White House is more concerned that Halliburton's hands got caught in the cookie jar again than they are with how many cookies are actually missing.

In a pilot program, Burger King stores in Greensboro, Kansas City and Omaha are giving customers the opportunity to purchase a $4.00 Whopper meal for our troops in Iraq according to a recent article in the Triad Business Journal.

I heard a radio advertisement last night promoting the program.  The announcer said over and over, "support our troops in Iraq" and the first thing that came to my mind was, "why just Iraq?... what about the now-forgotten troops in Afghanistan and elsewhere?"  The reason, of course, is that you can only get a Whopper at a Burger King and there are three brand spanking new ones in Iraq including one deep inside Baghdad Int'l Airport.  (And we wonder why so many Iraqis want us the hell out of there!... Burger Kings are built before the sewers are fixed... but anyway....)

The Washington Post picked up on the story and offered this extraordinary quote by platoon leader Adrian Miller on why the Burger Kings are so popular and why our troops are not:

"We're lucky if we can get over here once a month, we're so busy raiding houses and kicking down doors in the middle of the night."

Even though we invaded Iraq under false pretense, our troops are there and now we must help them finish the job.  I will stop and buy one of them a Whopper this weekend.
