Not only is Real Live Preacher rewriting the Uncut Christmas Story for the modern era but he has also found time to analyze the $1.2 Million expenditure on recreating the Wright Flyer for yesterday's ain't-gonna-happen centurian air show out at Kill Devil Hills.

He, or any one of us, could have done it cheaper sez the Preacher... and I believe him, but... we didn't... and they did (almost).  All in all it was a great day for North Carolina.

People found Hogg's Blog today with the following Google search phrases:

  • "how to fix christmas lights" which led some poor soul to the realization that it can't be done.
  • Judge William Daisy's recent email joke flap was brought back to memory with the phrase "Cletis Quinticious Jenkins".
  • Someone wanted to know "what is proper Christmas greeting to say to a Jewish person", and what they found was this.  And a Merry Christmas to you, too.

and this intruiging search phrase...

  • "Mr. Sun Guilford County Yost" which adds fuel to the speculation of who the once bright shining and obvious Guilford Countian Mr. Sun was before his abrupt eclipse from the blogoshere.

The reason this phrase got my attention was from Sun's assumptive rebuttal of having a commenter question his identity back on 9/15/03, "First, I am not the Rhino's Scott Yost, if that's what the "Scott" reference is. I am not even that well-known. We're all wasting time here, but launching flares about my identity would be beyond time-wasting."

I actually wish that Mr. Sun would at least say hello to Cone or myself or someone. That way I would quit wondering and worrying why such a bright light could burn out so quickly. (an example).  Sun probably found that he was spending waaay too much time not making money by entertaining us all.

One word Sun: moderation... oh, and one more... OK several more... Saddam Hussein was captured... found in a hole, with some money, and he wants to negotiate.  How can you resist a comment?

I have been to a lot of musical productions in my day and have performed in front of thousands myself, but... what I saw tonight at little ol' Aycock Middle School was among the finest things I have ever seen.

I'm not just talking about the premier performance of the Drum Line (more on that later), but just the quality of what director Jimmy Cheek gets out of the little brains of mush that innocently sign up for his class in August (probably to get out of home ec or something).

Interspersed among the many Christmas (no mention of Jesus) and other popular songs the chorus sang were 6, 7, and 8th grade soloist and others (including Cheek's former, now college, students) with choral backup that made tears come to my eyes.

The highlight of the evening was the song "Mom" with soloist Braxton Thomas.  Braxton is a multi-talented well-rounded and wonderful guy who has been lovingly reared by his amazing grandmother, Barbara Clyburn.  (Braxton's mother died).  During the middle of the song Braxton was so overcome with emotion that he bent over double sobbing.  He was helped out of the auditorium by some friends while the audience gave him a deafening and tearful standing ovation for even attempting to sing a song that so obviously would have been impossible to complete by any human with Braxton's history.

To describe all of the emotions that the Aycock program brought out in the rapt audience would take more screen space than the average reader would stand for, but suffice it to say that the next time I suggest that you go to an Aycock choral concert with Jimmy Cheek in charge, put it on your calendar in front of anything else that might be available for you to do that night.
