Smarty Jones paid $5.00 to win for every $1.00 that was wagered on him according to the paramutual betting window that doubles as my computer.  Yesterday, Jinni and I hosted at least 100 of our closest friends for our annual Kentucky Derby party and as best I can tell a good time was had by all.

We had four TV's set up for their viewing pleasure but because of the rain, half of the crowd gathered in the living room around the widescreen.  I feared that my well-built 1912 floor joists might have met their match and urged some to venture outside.  I implored the balance of the widescreen crowd to please not jump up and down during the excitement of the 2 minute race.  I am pleased to report that the house is still standing.

The keg started floating around 7 p.m. and the crowd started thinning but the faithful just saw that as their cue to run to the store and buy more beer.  There is still about four inches of Mint Julep left in the fountain - I think folks started shying away from them shortly after Ed Cone and frograbbitmonkey tried their hand and mixing a batch.

frm and her entourage sauntered away mumbling something about keeping their buzz going at some local dive before the pickin' and singin' started around my piano at about 9:00 or so.  They had Record Hospital in tow.  I now know she has a much shorter name but will withhold revealing it for no particular reason.  (Hint, I'm married to one)

A little politicking occured.  Fellow blogger and County Commissioner candidate Carl Allen shook a bunch of hands and N.C. House candiate Pricey Harrison stopped in for a while.  Presidential hopeful Yellow Dog didn't show but his handler Billy Jones partook of the festivities and brought me a copy of his book, Carrott on a Stick - thanks Billy.

It was fun putting faces to blogs and seeing old friends.  The rain wasn't that bad and no where near as bad as the deluge that the folks at Churchill Downs had to endure.  Now, if you'll excuse me, I've got some cleaning up to do.
