It used to be called the National Conference of Christians and Jews. Begun in 1927, the group changed its name in 1999 to The National Conference for Community and Justice. Damn clever name change because they didn't have to change the moniker that most people know them by: NCCJ. The Triad has had a Chapter since 1937 and it is headed by Steve Simpson ( a fellow Kentuckian).
The group conducts a number of diversity and tolerance promoting programs that are making a difference in the community. To pay for it all they started a fundraiser last year dubbed "Walk As One". This national event brought in a bunch of money and got a lot of folks together as a "way in which individuals, organizations, and community leaders can support NCCJ in its mission to promote respect and understanding among all people." They are repeating the event this year and you need to be involved.
The event will be held at GTTC's Jamestown Campus on May 22nd. Go here to register as an individual or as a team and help out this worthy cause. Registration begins at 9:00a , walk @ 10:00a. But the other reason I am bringing this up is because I need some help.
I have agreed to be in charge of the clean-up/breakdown crew for the event. I have three slaves...err, children that have "volunteered" but I need ten more folks. If you have some time available on the 22nd to help with a very worthy cause contact me... the trashmaster... via comment or email or phone (273-2384). I'll get you the details.
But... if you can't help with the clean-up nor will be able to Walk as One - you can still make a donation, can't you?
