Our Mom, really... (she also belongs to sister Judy and brother Keith)
I don't get to see Mom very much anymore since she and Dad are still in Kentucky and I have chosen to call North Carolina home - but she is with me always and I think about her and live what she taught me daily.
My Mom is an extraordinary woman. Strong but very gentle - she instilled in me and my siblings a demeanor of quiet strength. Although Dad gave us our adventurous spirits which prompted us to not fear climbing any mountain we wanted to attempt, Mom taught us to carefully consider our paths, savor the process and people that helped us reach the summit and especially to truly appreciate our accomplishment before heading toward the next goal. I stop and smell roses out of pure habit - that came from Mom.
My Mom rarely lectures... she teaches - by example - how to navigate life. Be honest, humble, frugal (one I didn't learn too well), compassionate and always... always look on the bright side, and be positive about life - even when the curves thrown at you seem too difficult to navigate. People have commented many times how I easily relate to everyone I meet - never met a stranger - that's Mom's doing (Dad gets some credit there too, however).
As is my way, her spring flowers won't be delivered until tomorrow because somehow I picked up the trait of procrastination but I wanted to tell her... and now the world... that I love my Mom more than I can possibly put into mere words.
When we were youger, Mom was our world. Now that we are a bit older - her powerful and wonderful influence over her children's lives has caused Judy, Keith and me to transfer her very essence to a new generation. This world is a better place because of Dorothy Walker Hoggard.
Happy Mother's Day Mom
