Back home - refresh, refresh, refresh.

Jinni is upstairs watching the returns on public access, I'm in the office closer to "real time".  Every once in a while I'll hear a "whoop". "Paul's (Gibson - at large Commissioner) coming back." then "Damn, all precincts counted and Barber (Dist. 7 Commish) got beat."

At-Large School Board incumbent Dot Kearns has made an amazing comeback, mainly on the late returns coming out of predominantly black areas of High Point.

Jeff Thigpen is whooping up on incumvent Lee Payne in late reporting.  Kris Cooke retains her seat with all precincts in.

Something has come up.  I'll fill you in later but my day did not go as planned.

My First Lutheran gig was cut short but I was there long enough to know that this has been an extraordinary day for Guilford County.  I was hearing reports of 75% voter turn-outs in many precincts with several hours still to go.

I'm still headed to the old County Courthouse however, for the returns

In the meantime, for those of you who are blogger skeptics - read this little ditty that my Kentucky brother sent via Charles Schwab's Internet Daily service: Bloggers may leak data from exit polls

It involves N.C. blogger and BlogAd founder Henry Copeland who says at the end, "It really is an "Alt-Tab" election -- to cycle through the various blogs you have open on your computer desktop. That's channel surfing on the Internet."

Weblog to laptop... successful!  I'm charged up and outtahere.

Jinni and I got to Aycock Middle to vote at 6:45.  Got home (1 block away) at 8:20.  Aycock kids have a bake sale inside the 1926 entrance, which leads to the old auditorium that just looks like a place a person would want to vote.... regal, cavernous, beautiful... which is good because we spent a lot of time there.

There has been a huge turnover of poll workers.  For years I never even had to sho my ID because I knew everyone working the polls.  This year there were some new faces, most of which were of my vintage and below, I'm still glad to say I knew 80% of them.

The line was out the door and my fear is that people will get frustrated and go home, but lots of conversation between neighbors sounded like they were settled in for the wait.

Off to First Lutheran, blogging all the while.
