Monday, Jinni went in for her first MRI, or more accurately the first half of her first MRI.  This diagnostic proceedure is the final test in the attempts to find if her cancer has invaded any other areas of her body.

The big buzz around the house was intravenous port she was sporting on her hand Monday night.  Because they have to pump some dye into her for the MRI to better do its job they taped one of those things to her hand and left it in overnight so she wouldn't have to get another stick for part two of the test, which was yesterday.  Josie and Jesse were quite interested in the device.  "Ewww", was a common utterance.

Jinni told me that I would have to help her "flush it out" with saline and a syringe before she went to bed Monday night. But I went up to bed early and promtly fell asleep.  I didn't think about how she might have accomplished the flushing until I was driving down to Charlotte yesterday.  How'd it go, Jinni?

To keep needle poking to a minimum during the upcoming chemotherapy treatments, Jinni has opted to get a PIC line embedded under her skin on her chest.  In this way, when intravenous medicine and fluids need to find a way into her, the doctors and nurses will not have to keep finding new veins - they just hit the port.

Next step: Initial oncology consult Friday morning.

I arrived back in Charlotte yesterday afternoon for an abbreviated stint at work down here.

Monday was spent finalizing some on-going Greensboro projects.  My Greensboro crew has been re-working the windows at the storied 102 year-old structure known as St. Mary's House, just off Tate Street near UNCG.  If you have never darkened their door, take the time to poke your head in and say hello to Rev. Charlie Hawes - he's quite a guy.

I find that I miss participating in the many community meetings I am used to attending.  Last night was an important meeting of the Aycock Neighborhood Association which finds itself juggling many balls right now.  Last week it was meetings about setting policy and parameters for Greensboro's noise ordinance and several school related meetings as well.  Also, I really wanted to attend the Community Dialogue on Education meeting (N&R) Sunday about the No Child Left Behind Act over at Gillespie School, I fixed my Jacuzzi and raked (blew) leaves instead.

They say that the decisions are made by those who show up, so I hope my views were represented.  I'll get back to it soon.
