Again, What Color Is Your Parachute? by Richard Nelson Bolles is an excellent reference for someone beginning a job search.  I purchased one of the first editions when I was a struggling young mechanical engineer trying to figure out how to advance my career and then studied it.  Putting many of the book's recommendations into practice proved difficult for me because I did not (and still don't) have the stomach for making cold calls to the upper management members of companies where I wanted to work.  I really view What Color Is Your Parachute? as something of a niche job hunting manual.  Instead of focusing on the standard question for job seekers, "I'm out of work, what do I do now?" his book deals more with doing a career or life changing job hunt.  I've also felt that some very effective job hunting methods are glossed over or underrated.  I'll talk more about the What Color Is Your Parachute? job hunting methodologies in future postings.  If you disagree, agree, or have questions about anything I have written in this weblog so far, please email me at jim@discoverypersonnel.com.
