The Web: a medium for writers?

My friend Martha snuck into BloggerCon to catch the end of the morning Weblogs and Journalism session. We haven’t had a chance to talk about it at length, but she called me from her cell phone afterwards and said that someone said that “The Web is a writer’s medium.” I found this on Doc Searles’ blog posting from BloggerCon:

I'll second what Ed [Cone] said Dave [Winer] said a long time ago: The Web is a writer's medium. The difference from everything that come before, however, is the ecology of the Web itself, where everybody can contribute, and plenty do. Which means we no longer have "audiences." We have readers.

Which makes me think the Web is a reader's medium. Pixels are supposed to suck for that; but print sucks at links, which are enormous aids to readers who want to follow writers to their sources. Which, methinks, makes the Web more like a huge library that only grows.

Hey, I’m a writer - and a reader!

Cool. So I’m a writer and I have a bunch of friends who are writers, or at least readers. How do we use this medium? Some thoughts in the "writing online" and "on blogs" sections.
