Just when you thought we were done with military scandals... an Australian TV news show is accusing the American soldiers in Afghanistan of abusive behavior and violating the Geneva Convention by, among other things, burning Taliban corpses and recording a psy-ops video of it to taunt Taliban soldiers. Here's a transcript of their show.

In the mean time, Bush is dedicating an Air Force One exhibit at the Reagan Presidential Library, and starting to make the case for going to war with Syria. In all fairness, the UN is reporting that Syria conspired with some Lebanese leaders to assassinate Lebanese prime minister Rafik Hariri. But Bush has been making noises about Syria for a while, and posturing in a big way.

I would tend to believe that Syria is supporting insurgents in Iraq, and that the UN report may in fact be true. If so, war in Syria may be justified and inevitable. I just hope that this time when Bush starts arguing for war, lots of people really ask the hard questions.

And while I'm at it, why is it that for the second time in a row, Bush's secretary of state, the chief diplomat for the administration, is the public spokesperson for waging war? Does anyone in the Bush adminstration actually believe in diplomacy?

UPDATE: Here's an MSNBC article reporting on Rumsfeld's public comments. I don't know if it's just the way that MSNBC chose to report it, but after reading this I'm bothered that Rumself seems more concerned with defending against attempts to enforce accountaiblity,  and focusing on individual soldiers, than he is about finding out whether it actually happened or entertaining the notion that the military command structure might actually be involved.
