Aside from recovering from the big ARC Advisory Group Forum in Boston last week and trying to get the July issue finished, I've been studying autonomous computing. There will be an article on it in the July Automation World magazine. This is essentially a way to get a bunch of servers working together without human intervention unless things really get bad. Hiep Vuong, chief technology officer of Net Integration patiently explained the concept to me.
It's a similar idea to a technology that I really thing holds a key to the future of automation--wireless, mesh sensor networks, or ZigBee. These are self-aware, self-adapting, self-healing systems. They are very possibly the "Next Big Thing."
