Everyone is still trying to get a handle on just what Microsoft Live is and what the company is trying to do. Here, Dave Winer points to a blog with a couple of views. Of course, just like the old days, the announcement was a pre-emptive strike. The thing doesn't even go to beta until next year.

The news for the state of manufacturing was a little mixed in this week's economic reports. Productivity was up--of course this is a broad measure, but it suggests that automation professionals are doing their jobs. Factory orders were down, but then sales at Ford and GM tanked after the end of their giant discount sales. I'm sure that had an impact. Meanwhile, almost all automation suppliers are reporting good results. That's encouraging.
