I am a huge WiFi fan and look for hotspots in all the cities I visit. Finally had to break down and buy a monthly TMobile account because of Starbucks and other places I visit for access. Microsoft blogger Robert Scoble recently checked out mobile phone connectivity for his computer on the road. Read the whole string of comments on his blog to see the differences in mobile phone technologies.

I bring this up because Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications has partnered with Panasonic Computer Solutions Company to deliver EDGE-Embedded Panasonic rugged notebook PCs that could have great applicability in many remote automation situations--say large process plants with technicians on the go. The solution is Sony Ericsson GC83 EDGE PC Cards integrated into the Panasonic Toughbook CF-29 notebook PC using Cingular Wireless EDGE network.
