Siemens is sponsoring an Industrial Ethernet Symposium October 3-4 at the Westin Michigan Avenue Hotel in Chicago. It's the 3rd annual one, but held in the US for the first time. Major point of interest is that the panelists are not limited to Siemens and Profinet. David Humphrey of ARC Advisory Group is moderating and Collins Hemingway, former marketing director of Microsoft and best-selling author will provide the keynote address. The symposium includes two days of workshops covering best practice examples of Ethernet in automation.
I will be at the Emerson Exchange in Nashville at that time, but Automation World will be there. Maybe I'll get a guest blog out of it.

Here's an interesting idea, but I wonder if it's fully formed. It's billed as the "first national rating system for US manufacturing." It's eMvoy, founded by who founded SearchEngines.com. You can search on various terms--I searched "Sidney OH" since I live there and know most of the manufacturers. Sure enough, most came up with ratings. But, try to find out how they actually rate thousands of companies and who does the rating, and you hit a brick wall. In fact there's a place for manufacturers to write in and suggest a rating for themselves.
Now, if it were a rating system a la Amazon.com, that would really be interesting. Check it out and let me know if you see any validity.
Here's the rating guide:
|
World-class |
|
Industry Leader |
|
Nationally Recognized |
|
Major Market Presence |
|
Recognized Market Presence |
NR |
Not Rated |
Kind of a weird guide. One "cog" is still not a negative.
