Bob Erickson from Rockwell wrote to me and asked me to post that the mention about OMAC was my editorial comment and not a direct quote from Dan and Darrin. They stopped at saying they wanted a new committee along the lines of SP-95 that will work across industries (as I posted in the last version).

Honeywell Gets Deeper into Instrumentation
Putting two and two together--Wil Chin of ARC Advisory Group told me a year or so ago that instrumentation is where the action is these days (not DCS), and Jack Bollick, president of Honeywell Process Solutions, told me at HUG in June to watch for more announcements. So...

Honeywell has extended its private label supply arrangement for instrumentation with Adaptive Instruments Corp. and its Accutech label by entering into a manufacturing license agreement. The companies said that this agreement seeks to achieve three major goals: Support the Honeywell OneWireless initiative; Increase the wireless instrument manufacturing capacity; and further the objective of establishing an effective standard for industrial wireless platforms.

The release notes that this is "in support of the strong wireless market acceptance," although if discussion from the recent ISA Wireless Summit is an indication, that acceptance is a future consideration.

The agreement includes provisions to share Adaptive's design and manufacturing know-how with Honeywell for the current XYR 5000 platform as well as establishing development initiatives for new wireless instrumentation. The agreement was completed in May, 2007 and joint project teams have been formed to address both the transfer of the Adaptive Instruments manufacturing process information for the Honeywell XYR series wireless products as well as initiate development of new wireless instruments which will be offered by Honeywell and Accutech/Adaptive Instruments. It is expected that Honeywell will begin manufacture of XYR 5000 instruments in late 2007.

I've seen a couple of news reports this morning that Cerberus Partners has picked Robert Nardelli to head the new Chrysler Corp. Some people never learn. Think he's gotten past his huge ego and fixation on only one way to do things? It's not likely, but we can only hope.
