Stopped at a nice little coffee place on Brown Street in Dayton (on the edge of the University of Dayton campus) before my match at UD on Friday to meet with Dave Strobhar who is a principal human factors engineer at Beville Engineering and a driver of the Center for Operator Performance. The Center operates under the auspices of Wright State University and has members such as ABB and Emerson Process Management along with operating companies Marathon Pipeline, Suncor, BP and others. This effort is fairly new, but holds some exciting promise. Kenna Amos will have more on the Center in the December Automation World, and I'm sure I'll have more soon. At any rate check out the Web site. Another good involvement opportunity for those involved in operator performance issues (simulation, training, standards for operator interface, knowledge transfer and much more). How about it Rockwell, Siemens, Invensys, Yokogawa, GE Fanuc? (Note: Honeywell is doing its own thing with the Abnormal Situation Management consortium.)

Oh, and have a great Labor Day (for you US readers).
