Also in response to Dave's post of Febuary 18th:
Yeah, well some people like Edwards, including Dean, but you know what? I'm gonna be a pricky little Yankee and say that I'm sick to death of southern politicians, and if he's the nominee, I may not vote. For me, two of the most refreshing things about Dean were that he isn't a lawyer, and he's not from the south.
All we have had in the White House for the last forty years is southern lawyers. Think about that. Ever since the coup d'etat in 1963, nothing but southern lawyers. During the 100 years preceding the coup, our standard of living, our position in the world, and the quality of democracy and justice in our country only improved. Since the coup, it has only declined.
The problem, Dave, is not Republicans or Democrats, it's not conservatives or liberals. It's Cowboys and Yankees, and I'm a 6th generation (at least) Yankee, and as of November of 2000, that's all I vote for, now and forever, are Yankees. Cowboys and other Southerners need not apply. It's nothing personal, but their tenure in office has been anything but stellar, and it's about time for the North to rise again. If you're not from a Blue State, please don't waste my time.
As to the myth that we need the south to win: had Gore won either New Hampshire or Ohio, he'd be president now, without Florida. He didn't win a single southern state (except florida, which he did in fact win, chads be damned) We can win without the south, and doing so would do more to change our countries political future than having the most liberal southerners elected for the next decade. While I have many friends from the south, and like them very much, the political and business class of the south is without question the most corrupt there is.
The overwhelming majority of acts of moral leadership and courage over the past century have originated in the north, and have been ooposed by the south. From Abolitionism to Labor rights to women's suffrage to the civil rights movement to the feminist movement to gay rights, we've set the standard and made the rest of the ccountry follow along. We also started the space program, etc... I am tired of being told I am out of step with America. If the rest of this country thinks we are out of step, it's because it's hard to keep in step when you are so far ahead and walking so much faster.
My humblest apologies if I've hurt anyone's feelings.
BTW, PrimeTime Live doesn't air again until Thursday night, but I will hopefully have Good Morning America's sponsor list posted on Monday night, as promised.
