How does this work? [posted by Troy] Today I read the article "Kicking Back" by David Murray in the January 2005 issue of Chicago Magazine, which relates the story of Illinois Supreme Court Justice Robert Thomas' defimation of character law suit against Bill Page a columnist for the Kane County Chronicle (ciruculation about 15,000, or less 1% of Illinois' population). Basically, Justice Thomas thinks that this Page guy is lying about him in his column, which is about impossible to prove. I found this so intersting. What happens when a supreme court justice sues people? Are you going to appeal is you loose. Oh, there are so many issues around this, not to mention that Thomas is accused of playing politics from the bench, that he is a former kicker from the Chicago Bears, that he has a law degree but little expereince, and that he might be looking to make another political move. Anyway, if you are interested, take a look at this summary.
