A Dying Movement? [posted by Troy] Here's an article from In There Times about organized labor in America. At it's highest point, organized labor accounted from 35% of the jobs in the US. Today it accounts for about 12%, a sizable, but shrinking proportion. There are many people who debate whether this is good or bad. One side reminds us that organized labor drives up the prices of goods, while the other side reminds us the organized labor allows working (hourly) people to earn a living wage. The gap between the middle class and poor is growing, which has many long term problems for the US. On top of that, the struggles, protests, strikes, attacks, riots, etc that the US endured in the creation of the labor movement may have to be endured again, but this time in places like Asia and Africa. While we haven't found a better system, don't we have to keep in mind that sometimes capitalism can be a race to the bottom?
