It's not the end of the world. [posted by Troy]
Now, many people have thought that the Mayan Calendar pointed at December 23, 2012 as the end of the world. If you search the Web, you will find many nutballs who think that the world is ending and that the Mayans knew all sorts of impotant stuff (like they spoke with aliens and helped create the city of Atlantis). Now, I don't want to put down the Mayans, because they did pretty well for not having any beasts of burden at hand. Their calendar and astronomical knowledge was fairly advanced. In fact, new evidence indicates that the Mayans did not think the world would end in 2012. Actually, it is in 2012 when their calendar turns to 13.0.0.0, or the start of their 50th century. This actually will be quite a celebration.
