It's Been a While!
We're finally back on line. What with the reno and a virus, we've been out of commission for a while. The kitchen is nearing completion. Just smaller things to do now - add the backsplash, re-finish the wooden floor (in spite of keeping it covered with the particle board you see in the photos, the workers still scratched it up), install new window trim and baseboards, and add the breakfast nook. The dining room needs its final coat of paint and the stones added around the fireplace. While tomorrow is Iris' 16th birthday, we're having the birthday dinner on Saturday. I've promised her we'll actually be able to have the meal in the dining room. By the way, the colours are off in the photo below. The orange is more muted, and what appears to be light blue on the other wall is actually a bluish-greyish.
Future Questions
Alan is starting to feel some pressure about what to do after high school. He desperately wants to do something related to music and is acutely aware of his very late start in learning an instrument. He was also making noises tonight about me and dad probably not wanting him to 'waste his time' being a musician, but go to university to get a 'real' job. We had quite a talk about the need to follow one's heart instead of doing something to make others happy. He seemed quite relieved to hear that I would be his biggest fan if he wanted to try and see where his music would take him. It's funny how sometimes you think you've given a clear message to your kids about your hopes and dreams for them, only to find out that they still have doubts. I think we both learned valuable lessons tonight.
