Safe and Sound Iris got back from Quebec City last night. She had a good time, except that she wasn't too crazy about her billet. "She reminds me of Jamie" was Iris' assessment. Oh horrors to have to spend a week with someone who reminds one of one's little brother!
Summer! What a glorious week-end! Temperatures climbed to the low 20s on both days - you could almost sit and watch the snow disappearing from our front lawn. I spent much of yesterday outside - working on sets for Iris' Peter Pan ballet. I created an eight-foot pirate ship, painted three headboards and a chest for the nursery scene, and this week I get to go hog wild with chicken wire and fabric or papier mache to make the boulders for the mermaid's lagoon scene. I have had little experience building sets, but I'm finding I really enjoy it. The part I won't enjoy is trying to cart these things off to the Arts Centre, but I know some people who I'm sure I can call upon to help. Thank goodness for Joe's truck.
Friday and Saturday nights I spent at the Arts Centre for the Rotary Music Festival awards night and concert - one of my students received an award and performed. I was hoping a second would, but I guess she just missed out in terms of her final mark.
Speaking of marks, I only have three weeks to go before writing my counterpoint exam. I'll be so glad to have that finished. Then comes the decision of whether I'm going to take my advanced harmony course next year. Part of me wants to finish off my ARCT requirements....if I don't it'll feel like I've climbed almost to the top of a mountain but then turned around without reaching the peak. The other part of me wants to use that time and money doing other things - I haven't had nearly the amount of time I've wanted at the piano this year. I'd love to take some jazz piano classes. Anyway, I have a few months to decide.
