Pure Joy
For some reason, I was exhaused last night and fell asleep around 8:30. Because of that, I was wide awake and raring to go very early this morning. I got up, went out for a bit of a walk, and am now back with my hot water and lemon in front of this computer.

We've had snow every day for the last four or five days, so every morning when I go out I see fresh people and dog tracks. It's the dog tracks that intrigue and amuse me. You can tell so much about the personality of a dog just by its tracks. There are the very proper dogs who, even without being on a lease, would walk a careful and straight line. To even step off the path to have a bowel movement must feel risque to them. They've have obedience training up the zing zang and have probably had their minds erased from any other way of being. Then there are those who you know are leased, but straining for freedom. You can see the yearing and frustration in their steps. And then - and these are the ones I like - there are those dogs who are leashless and who's wild and spontaneous patterns in the snow show the pure joy that these dogs feel at that moment.

Later edited to say: So if I like this trait in dogs so much, why do I get so worried when my children act this way? God, I can be such a hypocrite sometimes!
